Project Research Phases
Promoting the Integration of Universal Design into University Curricula (UDUC) took place from 2012 – 2014 and promoted the integration and creative exploration of Universal Design (UD) across university curricula through collaborative, interdisciplinary activities. Bringing together experts and faculty from a wide range of disciplines, we sought to create, share, and advance innovative UD education resources.
Phase II, which began in April, 2017, conducts a number of activities to promote the teaching of accessibility and UD topics in university curricula nationally. This includes organizing trainings and workshops at national and regional conferences, recording these sessions for later viewing, facilitating the sharing of curriculum resources through the development of a curriculum resource database, and conducting research on the student benefits of teaching about accessibility and inclusive design in college level courses. You can read more about these activity areas below.
Overall, through expansion of curricula and website resources, increased outreach, and expanded formal partnerships with other national programs and institutions, UDUC disseminates curriculum resources, presents training and forums and conducts research to increase the quality and number of courses addressing universal design in university curricula nationally.
Training & Workshops
UDUC organizes and hosts training and workshops on Universal Design, with a focus on training that provides resources for the inclusion of Universal Design and accessibility topics in university curricula. You can view videos of past workshops in our video library. You can view upcoming training on our News & Events page.

UDUC is conducting a survey on the student benefits of taking Universal Design and accessibility topics in college level technical, computer and design courses. See the Research section for preliminary results and more information on the study.
Exchange and Links Resources
Syllabi, Course Components and Links to Outside Resources
UDUC seeks to locate curricula, syllabi and course components and promote the sharing of these resources. You can search for UD-related syllabi, model courses and course components in our resources section. Note that the curricula resources component is still being developed. More resources will be posted and made available within the coming months.
